Can hackers get into my netgear wireless router even if i set a key?

is the wireless key enough to protect intruders into my network, and ultimately to my cpu? also is there a way to stet my router to be accessibe only when connected physically through a patch cable? It makes me nervous how I can go into the router and mess with settings easily while wireless… complicated question, but I just question security these days. Thanks…
If there is something valuable for the attacker then they ‘can’ get past anything. If you set up a WPA key (don’t use WEP not as strong) you are pretty safe.
Other good tips are to put MAC address filtering on (you need to tell the router the MAC address of all of the wireless devices you want to allow access to). Also don’t broadcast your SSID (i.e. the name of your connection).
Other good practice stuff is to disable admin access via the wireless port and (for all routers, wired and wireless) to change the default admin password to avoid so called ‘drive by pharming’.
If you’ve configured a WPA key, then your pretty safe. WEP keys are a different story. There’s a 50% chance a WEP key can be hacked in less than a minute!
I haven’t seen a router that allows you to disable management access via wireless, but if you configure a solid administrator password, and use WPA security, you shouldn’t need to worry.
hackers, if they really wanted too, could get into your network. but since you have a wpa security key, it will take some time for them to crack. this is a deterrent. if it’s something that will take them a while to crack, they wont try because most of them are lazy
It’s probably still possible, but really really hard. Make sure your keys are really long. The longer the key is, the longer it takes to hack it. Also, disable broadcasting your SSID. If they don’t know the network is there, how can they hack it?
There should be an option in your router to disable wireless access altogether. With the security settings mentioned above, you probably won’t have to worry about hackers.
Always set the admin password, this will stop any tampering, if you use encryption ( 128 bit WEP entered in hex is better than WPA with a poor passphrase ) this should keep you safe enough. There are many open systems out there, most crackers will go for those.

As long as your wireless key is strong and not easy to guess it should be pretty hard for a hacker to get in
